Creating an Innovative Scalable Business with Innovation in Product Line for the Dokra Artisan Community
Between the two villages of Bikna, Bankura and Dwariyapur, Purba Bardhaman n West Bengal, we are about 200 plus Dokra Artisans, supporting family members of about 1000 men, women and young kids, who also actively engage in and support our work. We have two cooperative societies one in each village. One of them is controlled by a handful of the more affluent dokra artisans and the other is not functional. All the dokra artisans of one village and select few of another village, together, we are in the process of forming a branded artisan organization DokraArts.com, as a producers organization or a private limited company which will support us both for national and global marketing, help us to set up best practices of doing business and also help us apply new designs and new technology to our Dokra Artisanry process.

The vanishing wax method of metal casting, popularly known as Dokra, is a primitive technique. It can be traced back to the Indus Valley civilization and is considered popular because of its wide usage, cultural connectivity, and folk charisma. Whether you are just starting or you have been making art for decades, we have the supplies you are looking for. We carry student level supplies as well as archival products. Living Tradition Arts & Crafts: Folk and Tribal
Our Arts & Crafts Consultants are always on hand to answer questions about what products are best for your project. We also offer workshops and a small gallery for our customers to see the work.
Dokra has historically been associated with the tribal culture of India. Its hub for many centuries was in the metal-rich region of Central-East India. But it is now restricted to a small number of groups of traditional artisans in widely dispersed locations. One significant nucleus of this craft exists among related group of families in Bikna Village (Bankura) and nearby Dariapur Village (Burdwan), in West Bengal.
